Cosmetic fillings, or composite fillings, are a tooth-colored alternative to traditional amalgam (silver) fillings. They are made of a composite plastic resin and look just like natural teeth. These allow us not only to be more aesthetic, but they also bond to tooth structure, so we can be more conservative in our preparation design and remove less tooth structure. This is the best way to get rid of dental decay while cavities are still small, and replace unhealthy tooth structure in an otherwise healthy tooth.
Crowns and Veneers
A dental crown is a “cap” placed on top of a damaged or unhealthy tooth. They are used to protect, cover and restore the shape of your tooth. While a filling is meant to “fill in” an otherwise healthy tooth, a crown is meant to protect a compromised tooth. Crowns can be full gold, porcelain fused to metal, or all porcelain. The newest porcelains are designed to look just like your natural tooth, while enhancing the strength and longevity of it.
A dental veneer is a very thin layer of porcelain that is place over the surface of the toot to improve the tooth’s alignment, color and/or shape. They can fix discoloration from staining or erosion, correct chipping or malformation, and align crooked or disproportionate teeth. Veneers can create a beautiful smile while removing minimal tooth structure.
